Food Church Property, nicknamed Llano, of northern New Mexico is an 11-acre pasture parcel featuring multiple acequias and a year-round flowing creek. Llano is in its fourth year of development and second year as a Food Church property. Read the 2025 initial report here.
The Llano property experienced some unexpected twists through the 2025 growing season. Onsite observation was thwarted, however early summer test varietals proved successful anyway without any human maintenance or intervention! It was quite exciting to see plants not only surviving but thriving within the basic keyhole beds made to capture passive irrigation flow from the acequias.
Another exciting development of the late spring/early summer was the appearance of a holding pond, catching the ongoing acequia flow of the spring. With a little bit of management this pond could turn into a year-round occurrence! Owner and lead Visioneer Bennett was also able to terrace one of the naturally-occurring springs as it flowed into the creek. This should help disperse the spring water laterally as it meets the creek and help stabilize the slope.
Lastly, just before the temps dropped and the snow started flying, owner & Lead Visioneer Bennett planted over 50 seedlings of shrubs & trees to start the main bisecting hedge row across the pasture area. 2026 will be an exciting year for Llano: newly established water flows and reservoirs, with plans for structures and planting already in the works!
