Food Church Property, named Selah, of southern New Mexico is aiming to operate entirely on existing resources from the immediately surrounding lands. Selah is in its 4th year of development and second year as a Food Church property. Read the 2024 reports about Selah here.
Selah received a heavy dose of seed scattering both in the autumn of 2024 and the spring of 2025, especially in the newly built swales around the property. What was previously 90% barren, rocky soil supporting only a handful species of grasses, trees and cacti, now shows the amazing promise of several edible and other native plants. These plants will help stabilize the slope and introduce lacking elements into the soil.
The evidences of a wet monsoon season combining with swales & mulch playing into the local fauna show blooms and new sprouts a plenty!
Wicking Beds for the Win!
Property owner & lead Visioneer Lindsey installed some very large wicking beds for supporting other food-producing plants. The permeable bags, filled with soil sit on top of a layer of mulch, in a large tray that can be filled with enough water to keep the plants hydrated for days, if not weeks at a time!
We are thrilled to see the progress at Selah for 2025 and cannot wait for even more growth in 2026!
